WordPress’s SEO Search Terms Tagging plugin used to read the search query that brought a visitor in, and automatically attach that term to the landing page as a tag. It was a small but interesting traffic loop.
On a clean theme it can mess with the layout — a small CSS tweak keeps the tag list tidy. Google didn’t penalise it.
2026 Replacement
- Rank Math or Yoast SEO: instead of query-based tagging, you get focus keywords, schema, and internal-linking suggestions.
- Use Google Search Console to see incoming queries and manually update related posts’ titles, tags, and content — slower but healthier.
