Burak Bayram, The X (Twitter) Experiment

I decided to run an experiment on Twitter — or X, as Elon Musk rebranded it. Right now on Twitter (X), my last 28 days show 443 impressions, 2.9% engagement, 8 total link clicks, 0 retweets, 0 likes and 0 replies.

My goal is to see how much I can raise these numbers within 1 month and within 3 months. Now let’s get to the rules:

I will pick a niche of my own and try to move forward with that niche at first. Later on, I will try to broaden the niche toward general content. But those broadening efforts will not happen within the first month — they’ll take place over a 3 or 6 month period. Of course, if something unexpected happens that speeds this up, that’s a different story.

My niche will actually be sharing what I learn from the books I read, and about digital media. I will try to blend the two along the way, because alongside this Twitter journey I’m also planning to prepare content for other platforms.

Another thing that will help me on Twitter: I bought Twitter Blue for my account, and I want to benefit from it. As you know, Twitter has a habit of boosting Blue accounts. It also pushes your replies toward the top in the same way. I’d say these are good ammunition for growing on Twitter.

If nothing goes wrong, I will set my first day as Sunday, July 30, 2023. I’m continuing to write this post on Thursday morning, July 27, 2023, at 06:48. In this 3-day gap I’ll try to plan the coming weeks. Meanwhile, my Twitter Blue checkmark should arrive.

To keep my goals between July 30 and August 30 realistic: right now I have 905 followers and 443 monthly impressions, with an engagement rate of 2.9%. My target is to bring my follower count to around 1,000 by August 30, and to reach 20,000 impressions. If 1% of 20,000 people is 200, let’s aim to interact with 500 people in total — that makes 2.5%.

While setting these goals, I’m drawing on the accounts we’ve managed before. On platforms like Instagram, TikTok and Youtube, growth can be all over the place, but on Twitter those increases are harder to achieve. In fact, the whole point of this experiment is to crack Twitter’s logic the same way we cracked Instagram and TikTok.
