The man who won a European trophy for Roma when they had none, made Chelsea champions after 50 years without an English title, won the Copa del Rey for a Real Madrid side that hadn’t lifted it in 22 years — and has now signed with Fenerbahçe. Who is Jose Mourinho?

Mourinho ended his playing career as a midfielder at 24 and re-entered the football world as a translator, then continued at Barcelona as an assistant coach.

He began his managerial career at Porto, where he left his mark with UEFA Cup and Champions League triumphs.

He then quickly collected domestic trophies at Chelsea, but had to say goodbye after a falling-out with club owner Roman Abramovich.

His success continued when he moved to Inter, where he won the Champions League and was named FIFA’s coach of the year.

At Real Madrid he won La Liga with a record points total. He parted ways with the club in 2013 and returned to Chelsea. In his second spell there Mourinho won more silverware, bringing his total to 8 trophies at the club, before leaving again in 2015.

When he moved to Manchester United he managed to win the Europa League, but couldn’t achieve what he wanted in the league.

He later took on a new challenge at Roma and made headlines by winning the Conference League with the Italian side.

Now it’s Fenerbahçe’s turn. The 27 trophies in Mourinho’s career are raising Fenerbahçe’s hopes too. Whether he can sign new triumphs together with one of the giants of Turkish football is eagerly awaited.
