iPhonedo, whom I’ve been following for a long time, is back with a new welcome video for 2015. This video, in contrast to his earlier ones, is in English instead of Turkish. I think this is partly due to iPhonedo’s conversations with YouTube authorities, and partly because he wants to reach a wider audience in English.

Also, until now we’d been watching iPhonedo without ever seeing his face. With this first video of 2015, that taboo breaks too — we get to see him. We also meet Aynine, whom we’d known by name, for the first time. So this video was full of firsts. Honestly, even though many people complained about the switch from Turkish to English, I personally believe iPhonedo made the right call. To become a big YouTuber, producing content in English is required — that’s the reality. iPhonedo built his foundation with Turkish videos and now uses English to take his goal to the next level — it makes a lot of sense. The only downside is whether we’ll still hear some of the Turkish-specific expressions, or whether English jokes will replace some of the Turkish-only ones. That’s the only worry. But still, we’ll always have his back. It honestly makes me happy to see one of us doing this kind of work.
