Hello friends,
Today I’m here not with a video or a podcast, but with a weekly bulletin — a “newsletter”, as it’s commonly called. Since this is the first newsletter I’ve prepared, I want to open by introducing myself. Exactly like in primary school when the teacher would call on you and say “introduce yourself”: Hello, I’m Burak Bayram, born in ’93, born and raised in Istanbul but my roots are in Sivas — where the soil turns to harvest. I’m a Computer Engineering graduate. I previously worked at companies like Blesh, SORU.AI and Microsoft. I’m the author of “Youtube”, published by Kodlab — one of the first books written in this field in Turkey. I’ve been producing content on Youtube since 2008. On my channel Burak Bayram I publish the Kariyer Sohbetleri (Career Talks) series, and on my channel Tubi I publish videos I make just for my own fun. Since I love trying new things, I have quite varied hobbies: interior design, taking a watch apart to service and reassemble it, leather working, ceramics — I’ve taught myself all of these and more. As an extra, I’m a licensed archer. I was one of the students of Metin Gazoz, father of our national archer Mete Gazoz. 🛎️ Last Week on Social Platforms

  • YouTube is preparing to offer separate analytics tabs for videos, shorts, live streams and posts. On your analytics page you’ll now see the data separately instead of in one shared pool.
  • TikTok started testing in-app gaming in Vietnam. We’ll all see together how a social media platform evolves with in-app games.
  • Instagram is reorganizing stories. Users who want to see more than 3 stories per day per account will now have to tap a “show more” button. Say you have 12 stories up at once — after 3 of them are watched, the viewer will be moved on to the next person’s story.
  • A new police operation targeted Twitch streamers this week. The fraud cases we heard about before don’t seem to have calmed down. 18 people were detained in a simultaneous operation across 8 provinces.
  • Instagram is bringing a button similar to Youtube’s “join”. Having introduced the “subscribe” option about 3-4 days ago, Instagram will now let content creators collect fees from their subscribers.
  • Elon Musk backed out of buying Twitter. While Twitter claimed its fake and spam account rate was 5%, a research firm’s study put it at 19.75% — and with that, Musk shelved the Twitter acquisition for a while.

+KREATİF DURAK: This week’s guest on @Kreatif Durak — our podcast for and about content creators — was Haldun Kasırga, former Rafting World Champion and a TikToker for the past year. It was a fun and informative chat. I’d say listen right away.

+YERİNİ ALANLAR: In episode 7 of Yerini Alanlar’s 2nd season we talked about the drama Elon Musk stirred up against Twitter, the crash of crypto exchanges, the sinking of Luna, the news from the NFT world, Netflix’s downsizing policy, Apple’s latest decisions, the Twitch fraud case and the new limits coming to Instagram stories.

🚀 Analysis of the Week

How did we get 1,700,000 views on Instagram in the last 7 days with 7 reels? Let me explain it to you “IN 7 STEPS”.

  • [ RULE 1 ]
    You must have a story. In our videos, people’s stories take center stage. If you’re a good storyteller, people will connect with you no matter what you tell. Say a lot in a short time, simply.
  • [ RULE 2 ]
    To get people to watch that reel, show a story title embedded in the video at least within the first 10 seconds. Let people instantly know what they’re watching.
  • [ RULE 3 ]
    Keep stock videos ready. Try to publish content at least 5 days a week so you can catch a fast rise. Reels, TikTok, Youtube Shorts — they all love consistency.
  • [ RULE 4 ]
    If you’re going to tell stories our way, use a full-portrait shooting style where your face is front and center.
  • [ RULE 5 ]
    Use burned-in subtitles. Not English subtitles — prepare Turkish subtitles for Turkish content. Trust me, it has a hypnotic effect on people and makes them spend more time on the video.
  • [ RULE 6 ]
    After giving people enough time to understand the video, use “call to action” animations to get engagement. This brings more likes to the video, which in turn feeds the algorithm nicely.
  • [ RULE 7 ]
    Instead of showing only your face while telling the story, use filler videos or photos if you can. The video becomes more watchable. But you need to strike the right balance here.
