Not Just Turkish — Check Out Content in Other Languages Too!

I’m here with the third week of my newsletter. Time really flies. I think we should know the value of every minute we have.

This week I got a bit hooked on content from France and Japan. Here’s how it works: if you watch 2-3 French videos with the same theme, or Japanese ones the same way, your home page fills up with videos in that language and structure. So I deliberately made a point of watching videos with the same structure. Why? Because it’s my job. We call ourselves digital strategists — we should live up to it, right? By the way, I deliberately pick content creators who speak in their native language. Because creators who speak English are already influenced by other English-speaking creators, so you get similar videos, similar delivery and the same formats. In contrast, people producing content directly in their native language can offer somewhat more local and different things. No lie, I don’t speak these languages — I only have some familiarity with Japanese from watching anime for years. So how do I understand? Either I turn on the automatic English translation if there is one, or I watch without understanding.

The reason I watch things I don’t understand: people’s reactions, mannerisms, editing and storytelling change from culture to culture. Maybe there’s no “oh my God, unbelievable” level of difference, but the tiny details help me pick up a few things from other cultures. And this isn’t just about being a digital strategist — it also shapes your general worldview and shifts your perspective.

By the way, you can also browse each country’s Youtube trending pages using a VPN. Sure, Youtube curates those pages manually to some extent, but they still push what the audience there actually watches — so you can understand that country’s mood at that time, what they’re interested in, what they care about. You can do the same thing on Twitter, of course.

I’ve gone on long enough — let me leave you with what I gathered this week.

Let me give two examples of the content I mentioned above. In the first, a Japanese woman tours the country’s tiny apartments. Her channel has plenty of different content, I recommend a look.

Our second video has a similar concept to the one above but is a bit more hands-on: a French couple rebuilding their entire home. This also shows us what a middle-class French home looks like.
Watching this video, I became certain that the whole world will soon be full of people with similar rooms and similar furniture.

📢 For Content Creators;

  1. Twitter is testing a 30-minute timer for the tweet edit button.
  2. Instagram is working on a feature that will let users sell or earn NFTs.
  3. TikTok is working on a “clear mode” that creates a cleaner view while watching videos.
  4. The most and least watched parts of Youtube videos will now be visible.
  5. TikTok is preparing to launch a paid subscription feature similar to Youtube’s join button.
  6. Twitter founder Jack Dorsey left the company’s board.
  7. Instagram is working on a feature that will let users hide their follower counts from everyone.
  8. Meta — Facebook and Instagram — is working on letting you use your personal avatar’s emoji in your stories.

🎁 Tip of the Week

If a video gets 26,000,000 views on Youtube in 24 hours, its thumbnail deserves a close look, right? Then I invite you to examine the thumbnail MrBeast used in his latest video, “I Built Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory!”. Let’s try to crack the secret in 5 points.

1,000 Subscribers in 9 Months, Then 299,000 in 3 Months! How?

🚀 What Did We Produce?

Yerini Alanlar

In episode 9 of Yerini Alanlar’s 2nd season we did our first TikTok live stream, answered questions about TikTok and talked about TikTok’s new features. We covered the bribery claim against Zuckerberg, developments in the data breach case, the damage Elon Musk did to Twitter’s shares just by talking, the Luna Coin fraud, and France’s big change in the gaming industry.

Kreatif Durak

This week’s guest on Kreatif Durak, our podcast for and about content creators, was Özlem Özdemir — a name that recently rose to prominence with her street interviews.

📽️ An ANIME You Should Watch

You should watch 86 EIGHTY-SIX. If you’ve never watched anime: I’d summarize it as animated content, usually adapted from manga, that speaks more to adult ideas and structures of thought and is easier for adults to grasp.
I finished season 2 today. I don’t know if a 3rd season will come, but right now it’s an anime of 2 seasons and 24 episodes in total, each around 23-24 minutes. It’s one I truly enjoyed — recommended.

♥️ Two Videos, A Channel, A Whatever

Two Videos

Nerdforge is a channel I’ve been watching for a long time. They do art & craft & making, and I’m a bit addicted to this kind of content. In this video they leave the studio they’ve used for ages and move to a new one. When I watch videos like this, I watch as if everything they do will somehow be useful to me in the future. If that’s your kind of topic, recommended.

This week I’ll suggest two videos instead of one, because if you’re into content creation I think you need to see MrBeast’s latest video. The point isn’t how the video unfolds — you’d call it a Youtube video, but they pull off productions bigger than many cinema films here in Turkey. In the end it comes down to money, of course, but you could say these guys have vision too.

A Channel

Naturally, I recommend Nerdforge’s channel. Browse everything they’ve produced and watch whatever catches your interest.
