Now I want to tell you about a different anime: Sword Art Online 1 and 2. Actually, calling these “Season 1” and “Season 2” feels quite strange to me. Because even though the characters don’t change, they transition into a completely different plot. In other words, it’s not a direct continuation of the first season. Instead, they tell a completely different story with the same characters from scratch. But my favorite aspect is that they deliver the finale in a clear, conclusive way.
Sword Art Online Season 1 ended last summer. First, I want to talk about the premise of Sword Art Online. The concept is about being in games as if you were a real character. Meaning, you put on a headset like the Oculus Rift nowadays, and you enter the game. But you control all your limbs and joints yourself inside the game. In short, you are completely unaware of what’s happening in the real world. A great concept for gamers.
In Season 1, the creator of this game blocked all players from logging out, and anyone who died in the game was condemned to die in the real world as well. Furthermore, anyone whose headset was removed by force was also condemned to death. A rule was added stating that logging out was forbidden until you beat the game. But of course, things went south and people died. In the end, they completed the levels and put an end to this. By the way, our main protagonist is Kirito. The kid is a swordsman.
The King of Spoilers (If you plan to watch, skip this part!): You might ask, “Since these people stayed in the game long-term, didn’t they die of dehydration or something in real life?” Actually, they would have. But they moved everyone to hospitals and put them all on IV drips for the entire duration.
Now we are in the second season. This season, the anime is built around a villain, namely Death Gun. Japan’s security forces drag our Kirito into a game once again to catch this Death Gun. The reason they fear Death Gun is that a person he kills inside the game is also condemned to death outside the game. Right now, I’ve found out who Death Gun is, but since the anime hasn’t fully finished airing yet, I am also eagerly waiting to see how the conclusion turns out. Hopefully, they finish it beautifully again.
